This year's Art & Model competition took place in King's Oak Primary school and had a "Homecoming" theme (ie something to do with Scotland!)
Alasdair and Joe went along to represent the Pack, and to show off their Creative talents - Alasdair making a fantastic model of a Clydeside crane, and Joe building a St Andrews flag from Kinex stuff!
Alas, neither boy managed to triumph, but they did extremely well! Better luck next time!!!

For three Cubs their last Pack Night was to be a special occasion when they were awarded their Chief Scout Silver Awards - the highest badge they can earn as Cubs!
Lewis, Luke and Louis had been members of 1st Gourock Cubs for over 2 and a half years, and through that time had risen from the smallest of the Pack, to Seconders and then finally to Sixers - positions which they filled ably for nearly 6 months!
Between them the boys have earned over 30 badges, and have spent a total of almost three weeks under canvas (or in Everton Lodge when it was cold!)
They thoroughly deserved their Chief Scout Awards, and everyone at Cubs wishes them all the best for their careers as Scouts!! Well done boys!

SCOUT & EXPLORER SKI TRIP 13th - 15th March 2009
The Scout & Explorer Ski Trips have become an annual favourite for the boys and leaders. These trips enable the scouts and explorers to learn to ski or snowboard through expert tuition provided by instructors from Footloose. The boys spend the weekend, normally at The Nevis Range, having fun while improving their technique and gaining their snowsports badge.
The main difference with this ski trip was that the scouts & explorers would normally go on seperate trips..... Not this time .....Numbers on this occasion dictated and this was to be a mixed group, leaders were confident however that all the boys would benefit from each others company.

At the end of March 8 leaders from our own group ventured 300 miles to Sheffield to take part in a RYA level 2 powerboat course. Not only did they complete the course but they survived the trip in Donald the bus!
The course was held at Damflask Reservoir near Sheffield, this is the local centre for Sheffield Scout Sailing Club. A range of console and tiller control power boats were available to let everyone develop their skills, some with varying degrees of success!. We won't mention the person that parked the boat on top of the "man overboard" nor the person who pushed off from the jetty with no keys! Thanks to Dave and Wendy Berry for instruction, catering and accommodation, a successful weekend for all.

Congratulations to Andrew and Dominic for winning the Junior Orienteering Competition recently. Twenty-three teams from across the district took part on a cold day at Everton. The boys put in a lot of effort and came away with the trophy. Well done to George, Scott and Ciaran for recording good times as well.

Saturday 7th March saw the first Annual (possibly) 1st Gourock Scout Group Quiz, held in Gourock Bowling Club. The Cub leaders very very kindly volunteered to run the Quiz, and Jamie was the man with the questions while Ruairidh was in charge of counting up all the scores!
