All of the sections will be winding down over the next few weeks ready for a summer break, so Parents please make sure that you ask your son or daughter for a copy of the Group newsletter which is being distributed this week.
It has been another busy year at Drumshantie Road. As a result of a very generous donation the Scout hall has received the welcome addition of a new disabled toilet, kitchen, double glazing, down pipes and disabled access ramps. This has encouraged other parents to help us in developing this excellent resource for the Group. More progress will be made during the summer months ready for the new session.
None of this would have been possible without the support of a very dedicated Leader team and Group Executive here at 1st Gourock, many thanks to all.
Updates will still appear on the website during the summer months so keep watching.
p.s. don't forget to use the easyfundraising link on the home page.

“Years from now down a memory lane,
We shall walk and live again...”
Thus went some of the lines from the official song of the 1957 Jubilee Jamboree. This great celebration was held from 1 - 12 August in a large park at Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham, in England. It marked 50 years since the start of the scout movement and 100 years from the birth of the Founder, Baden-Powell. Two scouts represented the 1st Gourock (CDO) - Peter Fleming (“Bean”) and I.

From District Scout Notes:
Five young men from Greenock District attended the annual Queen Scout parade at Windsor Castle last weekend. Mark Sinnamon, Christopher McDermott, Brendan Mearns (all 32nd Group), Jonathan Webb (80th Group) and Martin Jones(6th Group) , all travelled to London with family and friends to attend this state occasion and be presented to HRH the Prince of Wales and Chief Scout Bear Grylls.
Our lads joined 400 plus other Queen Scouts from throughout the UK. The sun started to shine brightly as the Queen’s Scouts were reviewed by HRH The Prince of Wales and Bear Grylls. Jonathan Webb was the star of the show, carrying the national scout flag, in front of a crowd of several thousand onlookers.
Local leader Ian Canning (73rd Group) was also in attendance in recognition of receiving the Silver Wolf.
Chief Scout Bear Grylls said: "All these young people have lived the adventure of a lifetime to achieve their Queen’s Scout Awards, and I admire that spirit so much. They are huge inspirations to the other 500,000 Scouts in the UK and I am so pleased that both Scouting and The Prince of Wales have honoured them today. They are amazing."

We joined up with the 33rd Scouts, leaders and explorer and set off from Overton car Park to walk the full length of the Greenock Cut, stopped for elevenses at Cornalees and then on to Wemyss bay via the 6 miles of the Kelly cut. All the boys, girls and the dog managed the walk with ease. One of the leaders required assistance - not the oldest!. We were met at Wemyss Bay by Graham and Donald the bus, after refuelling on chips we made our way back to Greenock.
This was the first of our West Highland Way practice hikes, the next 2 will be more challenging to give a true indication of what can be expected - dates will be on the calendar.
